Steel sump guard for Citroen Berlingo

Despite going to the extra effort of checking via email that the guard (code: 30.030) would actually fit a 2007 Citroen Berlingo forte 1.4 litre petrol (a bit of a rarity), and receiving confirmation that it would, I was very disappointed that in fact, it did not. The rear mounting slots were too short, and the sump plug access cover was in the wrong place for this engine (although I suspect it is in the correct place for the diesel engine versions). I spent more than a day modifying the guard (cutting, welding & painting) so that it would fit and the sump plug access cover was in the correct position. It would almost have been easier to start from scratch. The guard itself is quite robust, and once fitted, does what it is supposed to do. However expect the cab to be a little noisier, due to the reflected sound from the engine bay. Shipping was very fast, but the protection offered by the packaging was insufficient (another reason why repainting was necessary.

Sump guard and transmission guard made very well. Clingfilm only packaging was insufficient for the long journey to Scotland as sump guard was bent in transit and corners scratched, I bent it back into shape. Overall a great set of guards for reasonable price that fitted my 2007 Grand Vitara 1.9 DDiS perfectly.

Shipping: the packaging was not sufficient to protect the edges of the product from getting scraped. So I had to repaint the edges. Fitting: 1. the is insufficient fitting information. There should be a step by step guide with diagrams or photos. Instead it is guess work and trial and error. 2. The fabricated 'U' bolts that hold the sides of the guard to the underside of the engine bearers do not fit through the holes that exist in the engine bearers. My Mk 7 SWB FWD 2.2 transit sept 2012, has different sized holes on each side. On the UK near side (front right) the circular hole much smaller than on the other side. I had to grind down the ends and backs both U bolts to get them to pass through the holes. On the right side this took a considerable amount of work, before it would go through the hole. Clearly the design needs updating. 3. With no assembly order it became a fight to get the main sump plate holes to line up with the captive nuts in the sides and the slotted fixings at the rear. It was only after several attempts it became clear that the rear fixings should be mounted first!!! Thankyou.. What should have taken half an hour took over an hour. At least now the product is fitted, it is doing its job. And well !

The steel product feels a little thinner than I would have expected - hope it is going to be strong enough to protect the sump on rallies. It would have been nice to have an alloy (4mm dural?) option, but my question on that availability was ignored. Incredibly quick delivery (7 days) considering where the sumpguard came from. The sumpguard needed a little adaption as it is designed for a petrol engined car, while my diesel has a slightly wider/deeper sump. Not a major problem.
